Frequently asked questions

Yes. The full course — every level, unit, lesson, test, game and vocabulary review — is free, with no payments, no subscription and no paid tier. The one exception will be the AI Tutor, which is still in a small private beta and not yet open to everyone — see the next question.

Profe is a live, voice-to-voice tutor being built into the app — you talk, it listens and talks back, already grounded in your course, level, streak and current unit.

It's currently in a small private beta while we make sure it's actually good, so it isn't visible or reachable on most accounts yet. Once it opens up more broadly, it will be free and capped at 5 sessions a month (each up to 10 minutes) — a limit that exists because, unlike the rest of the app, a live voice session has a real per-minute cost, not because we want to hide it behind a paywall. It may become a paid feature further down the line; if that happens we'll tell you before it affects you, per our Terms.

B2 — upper intermediate on the CEFR scale. That is the level at which you can hold a fluent conversation with a native speaker without either of you straining, follow the news, and argue a point. The course runs A1 → A2 → B1 → B2 across 41 units.

No. There is an optional placement test at sign-up. Score well and it unlocks the first few units for you so you can start further along. You can also skip it and begin at A1 — if you already know the basics, those lessons go quickly.

Each unit ends with a test, and you need 80% to move on. This is deliberate: the whole point of a structured course is that unit 5 assumes you can do unit 4. You can retake a test as many times as you like, and retake any lesson to prepare.

Nothing bad. There are no hearts and no lives to lose. A wrong answer shows you the right one with a one-line explanation, and the exercise gets re-queued to the end of the lesson so you meet it again before you finish.

Every word you meet in a lesson enters a Leitner spaced-repetition queue. Get it right and it comes back later (1 day, then 3, then 7, then 21); get it wrong and it comes back sooner. The Vocab tab shows what is due today.

Speaking uses your browser's built-in speech recognition, which is not available everywhere — Firefox in particular does not support it. Where it is missing you will see a “Skip speaking” button, and the exercise simply won't count toward your score. Chrome and Safari, on desktop and mobile, both work.

No. All four arcade games draw only from vocabulary you have already met in a completed lesson. The arcade stays locked until you know at least eight words.

A streak continues on any day you hit your daily XP goal (30 by default, and adjustable). Every seven-day streak earns you a freeze, up to two banked — if you miss a day, a freeze is spent automatically and your streak survives. Life happens; the streak is meant to encourage you, not punish you.

Partly. A lesson that has already loaded can be finished without a connection, but your progress only syncs once you are back online. There is no full offline mode yet.

Currently Spanish (CEFR A1–B2, 41 units), French (CEFR A1–B2, 41 units), Korean (NIKL Levels 1–6), Japanese (JF Standard, N5 through N2, 42 units), and English for Spanish speakers (CEFR A1–B2, 41 units). Most courses teach a language to English speakers; English for Spanish speakers is the exception, built the other way around. You pick your course at sign-up and can switch between them in your profile — your progress in each is kept separate.
