AulaPath collects the least it can get away with. This page says exactly what that is.

Who we are

AulaPath (“we”, “us”) is an independent language-learning service. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights below, contact support@aulapath.com.

What we collect

Only what the service needs in order to work:

  • Account: your email address, your display name, and a hashed password. We never store your password itself and cannot read it.
  • Learning progress: lessons completed, scores, test results, XP, your streak and daily goal, and which vocabulary you have learned along with its review schedule.
  • Writing journal: the text you submit in writing exercises, so you can look back at it. Only you can see it.
  • AI Tutor usage: how many of your 5 monthly sessions you have left and when that resets. We do not store the audio or the transcript of your conversations with the tutor — see “The AI Tutor” below. If the tutor saves a study note for you, that note is stored the same as any other note in My Notes.
  • If you sign in with Google: your name, email address and account identifier, as supplied by Google. We do not receive your Google password.

We do not collect your address, phone number, date of birth or payment details — AulaPath is free and has no payments. We do not run advertising and we do not build advertising profiles.

Speech and microphone

Speaking exercises use your browser's built-in speech recognition (the Web Speech API). AulaPath never receives your audio and never stores a recording — we only see the text your browser transcribes, and only to check your answer.

Be aware that in some browsers, notably Chrome, the audio is sent to the browser vendor's own servers to be transcribed. That processing is governed by your browser vendor's privacy policy, not ours. Every speaking exercise can be skipped, and skipping never counts against your score.

The AI Tutor

The AI Tutor is currently enabled only for a small number of accounts in a private beta — this section describes what happens for those accounts, and applies to you only once it's enabled on your account. It is different from the speaking exercises above: while you are in a live session, your microphone audio is streamed to Google's Gemini API to power the conversation — it is not just transcribed locally. Our server never sees the raw audio itself; it mints a short-lived, single-use access token so your browser can connect directly to Google, and that token expires with the session (10 minutes at most).

  • We do not record or store the audio or the text of your conversations with the tutor. Google processes the audio to generate the conversation in real time, governed by Google's Gemini API terms, not ours.
  • If you ask the tutor to save a note or generate a unit summary, that note (or the unit content used to build the summary) is stored the same way as anything else you write in the app — see “What we collect” above.
  • We separately store how many of your monthly sessions you have used, so we can enforce the free-tier limit described in the FAQ.
  • The AI Tutor can always be skipped — it is optional, not part of any lesson.

Why we are allowed to hold it

  • To provide the service (performance of a contract) — we cannot track your progress through a course without storing your progress.
  • With your consent — for optional extras such as browser reminder notifications, which are off unless you turn them on and can be turned off at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We use a small number of processors purely to run the service:

  • Vercel — application hosting.
  • Neon — the PostgreSQL database your account and progress live in.
  • Google (sign-in) — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Google (Gemini API) — only if you use the AI Tutor, and only for the duration of that live session; see “The AI Tutor” above.

We may also disclose data where the law requires it. Data may be processed outside your country by the providers above.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account exists. Delete your account and we delete your personal data, including your progress and journal entries. Backups may retain a copy for a short period before they roll over.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, export it, or object to how it is used. To exercise any of these, email support@aulapath.com from the address you signed up with. We will not charge you for it and will not make the service worse for you because you asked.

Children

AulaPath is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Cookies

We use only what is needed to keep you signed in. See the Cookie Policy.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
